Glasgow Merchant City
Merchant City is situated right in the vibrant heart of Glasgow and is home to a wide variety of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. Glasgow Merchant City used to be one of the bustling trade centres of Scotland, with evidence of its past still present in the converted warehouses and markets. Hence the name, Merchant City.
Today, Merchant City has rejuvinated itself into the one of the most vibrant communities in Glasgow. Markets such as the Old Fruitmarket, Cheesemarket and Fish Market have been transformed into concert venues, upmarket bars, and sophisticated restaurant plazas. Small boutiques and designer outlets have moved into Ingram Street. Trongate has witnessed public realm improvements which is beginning to reap rewards with new investment to the area, such as Selfridges.
